Improved energy efficiency, but a few "rough edges"

The humidity in my bedroom regularly goes above 60% in the winter, causing condensation and mold on the windows. After a rain, it's even worse. So I ordered this to help take care of the problem, which it does. The musty smell is gone, I sweat less, and everything feels drier and cleaner.
This is a new model with Energy Star certification that replaces a similar model, the FAD504DUD. Consumer Reports gave that one a very high rating. From what I can tell, the only real difference is the lower energy usage, 530 watts compared to 615 watts in the old model. This gives it an efficiency of 530*24/50=254 watt-hours per pint of water extracted from the air (lower numbers are better).
Did I need a dehumidifier? Yes I de-hume-did!

This has been such a success story. I really hesitated to buy any dehumidifier, not only because of the expense, but because I had never used one before, so really, did I need it? Well, I found out I really did. There was a gallon of water each day for the first four days I operated it - there is really that much moisture in the air? I guess so! We may be having a drought, but at least I now have some bonus gray water to flush the toilet or water the plants. And that new paint job may actually last longer!Works well, great for arthritis sufferers with no a/c

We've had weeks of sultry humid weather in the San Diego area (humidity in the 70s to 90s where usually is under 50%). Normally where I live we don't even need a/c, or even heat because the weather is ideal most of the time until recently. I have some arthritis which does not like humid weather, and so after looking into a dehumidifier settled on this one due to the good reviews.
This dehumidifier works very fast - in a matter of minutes the humidity comes down in the room very quickly. I have not been able to get the humidity below 50% even though I set it for 45%, but I'm okay with 50%. Eases my discomfort tremendously. It does create some noise but it's not excessively noisy, more like pleasant 'white noise.' There's occasional dripping noise as the water goes into the holding tank.
It's very easy to unload the tank when it's full, and easy to pop back in. The dehumidifier rolls and is not so heavy that it's difficult to carry if you need to. It can make the room a little warmer, so you have to balance that out, but 80 degrees at 55% humidity is a whole different experience than 80 degrees at 85 % humidity.We already done the research and invest a lot of time for you.
